My whole life I was teased by friends and relatives that I was a video game junkie. Sitting on the couch, staring at the tv or computer screen, playing video games. It started with Nintendo, then Super Nintendo, then Play Station, then Playstation 2, and now Playstation 3, Xbox and the Wii as well.

So what's changed in all these years of playing video games? Well, now I'm playing on my 50 inch plasma that was bought FROM playing video games!

Look, I know I'm kind of an average Joe. I'm not lazy, but I've never been particularly motivated about working a 9-5 for less money than I'm worth. With this in mind, about a year ago I decided to search online for a Video Game Tester job.

It took up a lot of my time and finally after reading numerous reviews for different tester programs, I found one that was right for me. Read on to see how you too can become a Video Game Tester and have cash rolling into your bank account for doing what you love.

There are two main skills you need as a Video Game Tester that go beyond having any gaming talents. You must have the ability to communicate with others well through email and have the ability to meet game testing deadlines in a punctual manner.

Here's the deal. As a freelance Video Game Tester, you'll be expected to basically sit around in your home, in your pajamas or whatever and rock out on unreleased beta video games that are assigned to you by your employing company (we'll get to that in a minute).

Within a certain timeframe, it is your job to send written communication via email to the developers of the software company, providing feedback on gaming experience. Upon receiving the beta games initially, you may have instruction to look for certain bugs or game play errors.

That's it! You just do what they say and play fun games in the process.

Sit back, chill out, play the games and email your feedback within a certain timeframe. The result? A sweet, fat paycheck for your "development efforts".

Sounds like a joke right? WRONG! It's for real.

Don't bother pinching yourself. You're not dreaming. When I first found out about this way of making money, I was ecstatic. Finally, I found a happy medium that combined my love of playing games with making a VERY significant income.

If you're like I am, you might be thinking - "How could anyone consider this work?" Believe it or not there are some people in this world that aren't into gaming. That's why companies need valuable beta testers like us to provide quality assurance testing for them on their games. Enough talk, Let's play some games and crank out some cash!

If you get good enough at the freelance testing, there are circumstances where you'll be offered full-time gigs by software companies. I've gotten these offers on two different occasions, but at this point, I'd rather keep the video game testing as a side job. It's actually perfect as a supplemental income source because it doesn't take much time and you are active just enough to not get sick of being forced to play video games (as if that was real work anyway).
